software and technologies designed
for operating and monitoring
applications, data and services
residing in the cloud. Cloud
management tools help ensure a
company's cloud computing-based
resources are working optimally and
properly interacting with users and
other services [1]”
 Typically it involves with various
task. Listed below-
 Performance monitoring like
response time, latency and
uptime.
 Securing and compliance
auditing
 And initiating and overseeing of
disaster recovery and
contingency plans

Resiliency
According to
[thefreedictionary.com],
Resiliency means an occurrence of
rebounding or springing back.
Or
the physical property of a material
that can return to its original shape
or position after deformation that
does not exceed its elastic limit.

The Power of Thinking
According to technical white paper [2] of
cloud computing-
Cloud Resiliency –
“One big advantage that all types of
cloud computing offer is that, by its
nature, cloud computing removes single
points of failure. The failure of one node
of the system has no impact on
information availability and does not
result in perceivable downtime. Cloud
computing provides a highly resilient
computing environment. The one major
weak point is the network itself. If this
fails, then cloud computing fails. It is
therefore essential that cloud suppliers
and private cloud developers consider
network topology and ensure
redundancy is built into the entire
network.”
Cloud resiliency is the ability of a data
center and its components -- servers,
storage, etc. -- to continue operating in the
wake of some kind of disruption, whether
it's a breakdown of equipment, a power
outage or even a natural disaster.

Microsoft Perspective……Resiliency
According to Microsoft surveyed [3] …
“Software development has traditionally
emphasized fault prevention, and because
customers
operated the software, any failures were
isolated to customers’ on-premises
deployments.”
While ..
“cloud services typically run as
highly complex, distributed,
“always available” systems
that serve many customers.
Cloud systems are globally
distributed, often built using
commodity hardware, and
have inherent dependencies
on third-party and partner
services. The nature of the
Internet and global
networking is that transient
and even prolonged failures
are quite common.”

So engineers need to make a
necessary mind shift to adopt
Recovery-Oriented Computing
(ROC) practices, fully embrace the
idea that failures will happen, and
therefore incorporate coping
strategies into their service design
and software to minimize the
harmful effects of such failures

Phases of RMA –
It has 4 phases:
1. Pre-work – Creates a diagram to
capture resources, dependencies,
and component interactions.
2. Discover - Identifies failures and
resilience gaps
3. Rate - Performs impact analysis
4. Act - Produces work items to
improve resilience
