Conventions of an
opening sequence.
An example of a convention in an opening sequence that we used is when we prompt the audience to
ask questions about what is happening is when we show a close up of the pills, this will lead the
audience to wonder why there are pills on the table and what they are being used for in terms of
medicine or possibly an addiction. By using this close up technique we were able to draw the
audiences attention towards the object and make sure that they are aware of its presence, by
positioning it on the table the audience are able to link both the object and person together since the
table is directly in front of the main character which makes it obvious that he had been taking the pills
before he passed out. Secondly through making the audience ask questions to themselves we are able
to keep them on edge and intrigued into what will happen next or what the pills are used for.
Conventions of an
opening sequence.
An example of a convention in an opening sequence that we used is when we use the soundtrack
throughout the opening sequence. To create an eerie and disturbing atmosphere as the audience will
hear the constant static sounds which vary in pitch throughout which will increase the climax of the
audience as they will be lead into believing that something scary will happen however nothing will and
then in turn they will be left on edge wondering when this scene will occur. Also the use of the diegetic
sound allows for the audience to feel closer towards the main character which makes the mood of the
opening sequence more relatable and feel realistic towards the audience, the diegetic sound we used
was a radio that both the character and audience were able to hear which allows for the audience to be
clear on what is happening or being said in the scene.
Conventions of an
opening sequence.
The introduction of characters/ the setting is seen within our opening sequence, for instance you can
see that throughout the titles the characters name appears as well as where the opening sequence is set.
The reason we show the setting to the audience is to show how the character has only just woken up
ready for work, the reason why we used a house to film in is so that the audience feel as if nothing bad
can happen to him as he is safe inside his own house however further on in the opening sequence the
audience realize they were wrong which leads them into expecting something else to happen later one
leaving them in suspense.
Conventions of an
opening sequence.
At the start of out opening sequence we have the production and developers logo shown which makes
it appear more professional to the audience, as a result of this the audience will feel as if they are
watching a real opening sequence for a movie, it also helps to set the mood for the rest of the movie
since they both consist of dark colours which can be related to either horrors or thrillers. In order to
create our logo we used adobe after effects to do so, by making the background dark with a glimmer of
light on the hand it can portray the mood for the rest of the opening sequence. Finally the soundtrack
over the top helps to lead the audience into believing that something immoral will happen further on in
the sequence.
Conventions of an
opening sequence.
To establish the mood/ theme we used low key lighting to raise tension in scenes, also we used the
lengths of shots to create climax's throughout also at the end there is a shot which is cut off to leave the
audience on a cliff hanger which leaves the possibility's of what was going to happened open. Fast
paced editing makes the opening sequence more constant which makes the scenes more exciting
making the audience feel a sense of panic throughout for the main character.
Conventions of an
opening sequence.
Throughout all of the opening sequence there are titles that state all different people who were
involved in the production and devolvement of the opening sequence, this usually starts with the
production company who is starring in the movie, music and theatre, casting by, name of studio, then
the films title around the middle. In all of our shots we have managed to incorporate mostly all of these
into our opening sequence by placing them in areas of the shots which are not important the text font is
wrote in a faint text which links to the genre of our opening sequence since it has sharp edges which
reflect danger where as a bold colorful text would portray a cartoon opening sequence or family genre
better.
