Course Description
This course will explore methods of showcasing best works in digital format. Focus on
processing documents in a variety of formats so that they can be displayed digitally in a
standard format appropriate for universal viewing, such as PDF. Attention to design and
display of information.

Required Text:
There is no required text for this course. Materials will be provided in the class Moodle site.

Course Format:
This is an online course with no meetings at WOU. The course will include a variety of
readings, videos, podcasts, online demonstrations, activities, assignments, and online
discussions. Students are expected to keep up with the readings and respond to discussion
questions in a timely manner, otherwise the online discussions are not effective.
Please pay attention to posted deadlines. This course will be taught as a series of different
topics with a new topic introduced each week. You will be expected to log in to check
discussions and other announcements several times each week.
Technical Requirements:
This is not an introductory course in computer use or internet use. To succeed in this course,
you should have mastered how to use a browser (like Safari, Firefox, or Internet Explorer) to
explore the Web and you should be comfortable with loading, editing, and saving files to your
hard drive and moving files up to a Web application from your hard drive. You will need to be
able to read and follow directions and to work independently within time constraints. We will
be using Moodle for both your access to information and assignments as well as submission
of your work.
Email Correspondence:
When you email me any correspondence, please include CSE 689 in the subject heading so I
know your email is associated with this class. I will respond to your email within 24 hours.
Class participation:
Regular participation online is expected. Online participation will be measured by timely
submission of assignments and responses to the forum discussions.
Weekly Forum Discussions
Each week there will be at least one forum discussion in which students will participate.
Some forums will require students to read an article or review a website and post a reflection,
while others might simply ask for opinions or general responses. Students are expected to
post to the forum(s) by Friday and respond to at least two of their classmates by Sunday
night each week.
Assignments
Students are expected to complete and submit all assignments on time. Assignments are
designed to build on one another and to assist in the completion of your final project. I
recommend taking advantage of this as much as possible. If you fail to turn in your
assignments on time, ten percentage (10%) points will be deducted for each day the
assignment is late. Be mindful of your assignments and their due dates as this class is only
five weeks long. If life happens be sure to communicate with me as soon as possible.

General course guidelines
• Participate in the online activities every week.
• If you are ill or have an unavoidable conflict, please email to let me know ahead of time.
• If you need additional assistance or extra time in the computer lab to work, let me know
and we can schedule a time to meet.
• Participate in online forum discussions. Provide thoughtful and detailed responses and
engage in discussions with your classmates, both online and in class.
• Respond to forums and submit assignments on time. Let me know if you are having
difficulties meeting the due dates and alternative arrangements might be possible.
• Save your work often! Whether on campus or at home, on a PC or a Mac, make sure you
always have at least one copy saved somewhere.
• If there are any problems talk to me! I can always be reached via email and can meet on
campus when needed.
Plagiarism policy
Much of the work we do in this class involves using online electronic texts and images as a
resource. If you use material you have found online, you are expected to acknowledge the
source and, in the case of text, paraphrase as appropriate. If you use another writer’s words,
you must put those words in quotation marks (or use block quote formatting) and formally cite
where they came from. If you cut and paste text or any other material without crediting your
source, you are plagiarizing. Plagiarism is unethical and can lead to a failing grade.
