A network device that channels incoming data from any of multiple input ports to the specific output port that will take it toward its intended destination.

TECHONOLOGIES IN NETWORKING MODEM A modem connects the source of your Internet from your ISP and your home network, whether you use a cable provider, like Comcast, fiber optics, like FIOS, satellite, such as Direct TV, or a DSL or dial-up phone connection. The modem connects to your router–or directly to your computer–using an Ethernet cable. Modems are different for each type of service; they are not interchangeable.

Both cables share a similar shape and plug but an Ethernet cable has eight wires and a larger plug than the four wires found in phone cables.

It works by receiving your existing WiFi connection, amplifying it and then transmitting the boosted signal. With this network device you can boost the signal and effectively double the coverage area of your WiFi network.
