• INTRODUCTION
• DEFINITION
• IMPORTANCE OF DATA VISUALIZATION
• TYPES OF DATA VISUALIZATION
INTRODUCTION
• Visualization is a pictorial or visual representation technique.
• Anything which is represented in pictorial or graphical form, with the help of
diagrams, charts, pictures, flowcharts, etc. is known as visualization.
• Data presented in the form of graphics can be analysed better than the data
presented in words.
DEFINITION:
The data is first analysed and then the result of that analysis is visualized in different ways.
There are two ways to visualize a data
• Infographics and
• Data visualization
INFOGRAPHICS are the visual representation of information or data rapidly and accurately.
The use of colourful graphics in drawing charts helps in improving the interpretation of given
data.
DATA VISUALIZATION is a different approach from the infographics. It is the study of
representing data or information in a visual form.
Visuals in the form of graphs, images, diagram, or animations have completely proliferated
the media industry and the internet.

TYPES OF DATA VISUALIZATION
Data can be visualized in many ways, such as in the forms of 1D, 2D, or 3D structures. They are mentioned below,
ID/ LINEAR
A list of items organized in predefined manner
2D/PLANAR (GEOSPATIAL)
These visualizations relates to present real-life physical location by crossing it over with maps (It
may be a geospatial or spatial map). The intuition behind these visualizations is to create a holistic
view of performance. They are
• Choropleth: The geospatial map is colored on the basis of a particular data variable
• Cartogram: This type of representation uses the thematic variable for mapping. These maps distort
reality to present information. This means that on a particular variable, the maps are exaggerated.
For example, the image on the left is a spatial map distorted to a bee-hive structure.
• Dot distribution map, and
• Proportional symbol map, etc.
Choropleth Map Cartogram
3D/ VOLUMETRIC
Broadly, examples of scientific visualization:
• 3D computer models
• surface and volume rendering
• computer simulations
TEMPORAL
Data for these types of visualization should satisfy both conditions: data represented should be linear and
should be one-dimensional. These visualization types are represented through lines that might overlap and have a
common start and finish data point.
• Timeline: In this way, we display a list of data points in chronological order of time.
• Time series: In time series, we represent the magnitude of data in a 2-D graph in chronological order of
timestamp in data.
• Gantt chart
• Sanky diagram, etc
