DEEP WEB
The unIndexed Web
WHAT IS WEB?
• The system of connected documents (multimedia) on internet which can
be searched for Info about a particular subject.
• WEB is divided into two parts
• Surface Web – content that is indexed by search engines such as
Google and yahoo.
• Deep Web – content that is cannot be indexed by search engines and
hard to keep tack of.
WHAT IS DEEP WEB?
• The content on the WWW that can not be indexed by conventional search
engines.
• Collection of thousands of websites that use anonymity tools likeTor and
I2P to hide their IP address.
• Deep web is 500X times the size of estimated surface web.
• The DeepWeb, Deep Net, Invisible Web or HiddenWeb are the synonyms.
Deep web, the unIndexed web
TERMS RELATED WITH DEEP
WEB
1994 Jill Ellsworth used the term
‘ invisibleWeb’
A virtual currency that make
use of encrypted peer-to-peer
system
Tor is free software or
enabling anonymous

coining the term in 2000
Editor-in-chief ofWikiLeaks,

the world can help you hide your IP

VPN (virtual
private
network)

encrypts your data through a point-to-
point tunnel.
Pros and Cons
HOWTO ACCESS
DEEPWEB?
In order to access the deep web, you need a
dedicated browser such asTor/I2P/Freenet.
When using SurfaceWeb , you access
data directly from the source.
This direct approach tracks the information downloaded, from
where and when it was accessed, and your exact location.
Files are shared through any number of computers connected to the Internet
that hold on any single page, but rather in databases , which makes it difficult
for search engines to index.
Information on the DeepWeb cannot be accessed directly.
This method of sharing encrypted data make it difficult
for your location and the kind of information you access
to be tracked or monitored.
HTTP
(The Onion Router
)
• TOR was developed by United States Naval
Research Laboratory, with the purpose of
protecting U.S. intelligence communications
online.
• Onion routing was further developed by
DARPA in 1997.
• Initial release in 2002 .
• TOR simply focus on protecting the
transportation of data so that certain sites
cannot trace back the data to a given location.

WHAT IS DARKWEB?
• The dark web forms a small part of the deep web.
• Hidden services that are hosted within tor itself.

DEEP WEB
• Ransomware seem to love the deep web.
• It provides a hidden and robust “framework”
for cashouts and illicit money transfers.
• Edward Snowden, a former Central IntelligenceAgency (CIA)
employee.
• In 2011, he spent a year as a lead technologist on Dell’s CIA account.
• He copied the classified information from US National Security
Agency(NSA) in 2013 without the prior authorization.
• The classified documents release various information about US
government and also about the US invasions inAfghanistan and Iraq.
• On June 21, US Department of Justice unsealed two charges against
Snowden.
• On June 23, Snowden flew to Moscow, Russia
• He is still living in Russia with an undisclosed location.
Whistleblowers
IS IT LEGAL TO WORK WITH TOR?
• It is not illegal to just "browse" the dark web alone, in theory, unless you're lookin
g at sites that host illegal content
(e.g. child pornography, human trafficking sites).
• It also depends upon which country you are accessing the dark web e.g. North
Korea.
CONCLUSION
Total anonymity doesn’t exist on web, but these tools can provide
protection.
Use them responsibly and enjoy the internet for what it really is.
THANKS
