➔ Protein (meat, fish,
chicken,...)
On Zoom
➔ Pre- teens and teens need a wide variety of foods from the five

Comprehension questions.
Why is eating healthy important during adolescence?
➔ Your bodies are changing
➔ You, as teens, are becoming more independent and making
food decisions on your own.
➔ Many of you have a growth spurt and increase in appetite and
need healthy food to meet your needs.

➢ Teens need extra nutrients to support bone growth, hormonal
changes and organ and tissue development, including the brain.
➢ Teens should eat breakfast, drink water and limit highly processed
food, sugary drinks and eating out.
➢ Healthy eating habits and physical activity can help lower the risk of

Calcium & Iron:
Bones grow rapidly during
adolescence, and teens need
enough calcium to build strong
bones and fight bone loss later in

Iron is a mineral that helps build

helps your blood cells carry
oxygen, which provides energy

“Puberty is a time when a person’s body, feelings, and

changes are physical, emotional, and social.
Puberty happens to everyone although everyone goes
through the changes of puberty at different times in their
life.

Most girls start noticing the changes of
puberty as young as age 8–9 or maybe
not until ages 12–13. While most boys
start noticing the changes of puberty at
ages 10–11 or maybe not until ages 13–
14. It is also important to know that the
body is changing but so are the feelings
and relationships a person has and
sometimes the body can start to change
and the other changes might happen
later, or the other way around. No matter
when the changes of puberty happen to
you, it’s all normal.”

Erections happen more often and for no reason
Ovulation and menstrual periods begin
Daily vaginal discharge
Hormone changes cause more sexual feelings
Nocturnal emissions happen to some, not all
Shoulders get broader
Hips get wider

tough times.
How to manage that anxiety as
appropriate.
