Digipak Analysis – You Me At Six
Front Cover Back Cover
The CD Digipak designed for You Me At Six’s album; Take Off Your Colours is another
artistic album cover with a colourful design on the front cover. The reason for the colourful
design on the front cover is definitely linking itself to the album’s name which is also a song
on the album which was probably the main focus of this album possibly showing a playful side
as many bands do playful songs which aren’t always meaningful and are for enjoyment and
meant to be laughed at and be appreciated without being serious about trivial meanings.
Although one could argue this is a very great looking album, I believe this band cares more
about their music when selling these albums as they don’t go a great length to make their
album stand out in comparison to other albums which is why they stuck to a simple design of
a brown template with some mixed colours to make the front cover look nice.
Alongside this is a mix of different fonts which work really well making some of the artist’s
name in bold and others in normal text as well as differentiating the album name and songs
from the band’s name with different types of fonts.
I also think the centre circle with the dots is a speaker with different splatters of colours
possibly representing the band’s style of music being creative and coming out into a bland
environment as if their music is different to other people’s music and very unique.
As you can tell from the album’s design there isn’t much else to find as opposed to other
band’s album covers and I think the simplicity of this album cover gives it a charm which I
should consider when making my own CD Digipak.
