Gondry has worked a variety of artists in
different genres, however is favours
producing music videos within the rock, hip
hop, and pop genre. The reason this is his

(2004)
 Michel Gondry’s Levi’s 201 Jeans “Drugstore”
spot, according to the Guinness World
Records 2004 holds the “most awards won by
a TV commercial”
 He was nominated for the MTV Video Music
Awards for Best Art Direction shared with The
Chemical Brothers for the video “Go”
This is an example of Michel
Gondry’s work, the camera pays
close attention to the mise en
scene as well as the artist. As
there many things going on in the
background Gondry decides to
edit there to be four Kylie’s so
that the mise en scene does not
dominate the artist. There is not
much narrative in this video and
the structure is quite repetitive
however because of this it stands
out and makes it memorable. The
message of this cold be that the
world revolves around repetitive
schedules and split personality.
Similarly to the other music
video it has no established
narrative and the video also
continually follows the artist
to different locations. There is
a huge attention to the drum
kit and Gordy exploited the
strong beat of the song and
timed his editing to it. The
jump cut make this music
video very effective and
almost resembles a stop
motion a video. The use of
costume is simple however it
allows the audience to
identify the band’s signature
fashion of red, black and
white.
