Rama, a prince of Ayodhya, helps an aged hermit drive away demons that are troubling him. The hermit then takes Rama and his brother Lakshman to visit the holy river Ganges and the city of Videha. There, at a tournament field, Rama sees and falls in love with the princess Sita. The next day at the kingdom, kings from around gather to try bending the mighty bow of the god Shiva, but all fail. When Rama takes his turn, he easily breaks the bow, winning the right to marry Sita.
