The patient may complain of symptoms like a stuffed up feeling, decreased hearing, or pain in the ear due to ear wax blockage. On examination, thick, dark brown ear wax is seen blocking the ear canal. To remove the wax, warm water is gently irrigated into the ear canal using a syringe and soft tubing. This process is repeated until the wax is removed. If irrigation is not successful, a curette can be used to gently remove excess wax. The patient is warned to never use cotton swabs and may need future irrigation.
