This document proposes a system to easily meter energy consumption from both renewable and non-renewable sources using an Internet of Things platform. A microcontroller automatically switches loads between solar/wind generated power stored in batteries and power from the grid. An energy meter connected to the microcontroller transmits power usage to an IoT system, which updates usage details on a web page for the electricity provider and user. This allows remote monitoring of renewable and non-renewable energy usage while reducing manual meter reading errors and increasing awareness of efficient renewable energy use.
