Day 1 Agenda Welcome, Introductions VETS Grant Overview of the week Syllabus Assignments
Voices and Experience through Service: Engaging Persons with Disabilities in National Community Service 3 year grant in partnership with Indiana University and Transcend, Inc. Maryland Goals: To engage youth with disabilities in service to positively impact their successful transition to adult life To engage communities in a reciprocal relationship with youth with disabilities
What the grant can provide: Professional Development  Workshops (oral histories, digital story-telling, video, etc…) Funding for projects including materials, equipment, field-trips,etc… Opportunity to contribute to national study Funding to attend conferences and present your work with students
Youth-Adult Relationships At the end of 3 years: 40 youth introduced to service-learning through oral histories and relationships with veterans 30 youth will contribute to oral history/memory projects with veterans 24 youth will submit oral histories to National Veterans History Project
Service Learning in Transition Plans At the end of 3 years: 60 youth will have service-learning in their transition plan 55 youth will have service-learning /self-determination training 40 youth participate in service-learning experience
