Etihad Airways has adopted a partnership approach to offer a new model for airline competition in the industry. The President of Etihad Airways, James Hogan, delivered a keynote address stating that with such high barriers to entry for new carriers, no single airline could hope to compete effectively on its own against legacy carriers. However, through partnerships where Etihad takes minority equity investments in other airlines, they are able to create a new competitive choice for air travelers. This partnership strategy has helped create the seventh largest airline group in the world and delivers hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue while benefiting consumers.
