An ELISA test was performed on hypothetical samples from a group where some individuals exchanged bodily fluids, with one person carrying HIV. The ELISA allowed them to determine which samples were infected with HIV and identify the original couple where transmission occurred, in order to understand the spread of the infection within the group.

ELISA by Dr. Ricardo Chiesa<br />ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Inmunosorbent Assay) is defined as a biochemical technique used mainly in immunology to detect the presence of an antibody or an antigen in a sample. During this procedure we had the opportunity to do an ELISA. We had a hypothetical scenario. This is because we supposed that we were persons exchanging sexual fluids. The group had someone that was the carrier of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). When we exchanged hypothetical fluids we were able to create an epidemiological scenario. For this reason, some people were infected and some do not. The important thing that we did in this laboratory was to do an ELISA with all the samples. We did that in order to know who was infected. We were able also to indentified what first couple was the infection focus. <br />
