This document summarizes a research paper that proposes an Embellished Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO) algorithm to solve the reactive power problem in power systems. EPSO extends the standard PSO algorithm by dividing particles into multiple interacting swarms to maintain diversity. It is tested on standard IEEE 57-bus and 118-bus test systems and shown to reduce real power losses more effectively than other algorithms. The EPSO approach cooperatively updates particles between swarms to converge faster to near-optimal solutions while avoiding premature convergence.
