  This project-based coursewill focus on the use of emerging technologies as tools for learning. This is a dynamic course with content that is updated frequently to reflect new technologies that students will be expected to use within the full range of classes taken during their high school program of study.  Students will also be introduced to the tools, processes, and self-management skills required for online courses.

  Course design Theonline content of the course is designed utilizing web-based pedagogy and instructional design principles and practices. Instructional activities were developed based on the skills and knowledge required for college readiness and technology/digital literacy. This course aligns with the NETS. The NETS identify essential skills required for students to become proficient with 21st century technologies.

  Project Based LearningProject Based Learning is an instructional approach built upon authentic learning activities that engage student interest and motivation. Project Based Learning teaches students 21 st century skills as well as content. These skills include communication and presentation skills, organization and time management skills, research and inquiry skills, self-assessment and reflection skills, and group participation and leadership skills.

  21st Century Learning21 st century skills learned through our curriculum, which is interdisciplinary, integrated, project-based, and more, include and are learned within a project-based curriculum by utilizing the seven survival skills advocated by Tony Wagner in his book, The Global Achievement Gap: Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Collaboration across Networks and Leading by Influence Agility and Adaptability Initiative and Entrepreneurialism Effective Oral and Written Communication Accessing and Analyzing Information Curiosity and Imagination

  Your students usea variety of resources to create their projects. Your students work on collaborative projects with students in other locations or classes. You take fieldtrips without leaving your classroom. Signs you are a 21st Century Teacher

  You teach yourstudents not to be bullies or cyberbullies. Your students share stories from their summer vacations through an online presentation.   This course contains8 units that mirror the concepts of digital literacy, 21st Century skills and project-based learning. Throughout the course students will develop a proposed solution to a global issue. Each unit in the course contains elements that support the final project.

  Emerging Technologies isa course that was designed using the blended classroom approach. The instructional content is taught using face-to-face instruction in conjunction with the online component through Moodle. Students will complete projects in the traditional classroom setting and in the online setting.

  Teachers will beresponsible for facilitating the learners as they navigate through the projects and tools. Teachers will also be responsible for teaching the tools and supporting the learners as they complete the assignments and projects.

  Teachers will postgrades into ESIS and in the online gradebook. Students may access the online content at any time from any location. Teachers are responsible for managing the online platform and providing support and feedback to the learners.

  Each teacher willhave an individual course to be used with their students. Content, directions, and rubrics have been created for each unit. It is the teacher ’s choice as to what tools (identified in the units) to incorporate into the instruction. Teachers may utilize other Web 2.0 tools during this course.

  Each course consistsof the following units: 1) Emerging Technology - overview of the course setup, copyright, ethics, digital citizenship, etc. 2) Your Digital Life - organizing and managing your digital files and content 3) Collaboration and Communication - collaborative tools and online note taking

  4) DigitalPresentations - planning, creating and presenting materials using a digital platform 5) Designing for the Digital Environment - planning, researching, creating and formatting digital materials to be published to the web 6) Digital Storytelling - planning, creating and developing a story using digital methods and tools

  7) YourDigital Presence - planning, creating and developing an informational website 8) Who Do You Think You Are? - creation, organization and publication of the final project that consists of elements from each of the previous units
