Let’s Do IoT

Enabling IoT - What does it mean?

Editor's Notes

  • #2 Thank you very much for inviting me today Let me share with you my first thoughts when I started to think about this speech: Enabling IoT Platforms: the first thing that came to my mind was: what does it mean: enabling IoT?
  • #3 Enabling the world for us, the IoT makers?: platform enablers, connectivity developers, device makers, startups, partners… IoT entrepreneurs, supporters, experts that meet here today? I do not think so.
  • #4 Actually I think it´s the other way round, it´s about us: enabling the world, we need to answer the new demands of the world And that´s the way we see it at Telefonica IoT, this is our visión:
  • #5 To connect people with the things that matter to them.
  • #6 This has been our vision all along the process that led us here
  • #7 from the very beginning of the telco business.
  • #8 Since we started connecting a few million homes until today
  • #9 as we are in our way to connect billions of things.
  • #10 We are now able to connect all these things back to people. It is the time of things starting to talk
  • #11 Even the humblest digital water meter will tell us more about us than we could ever imagine: If live alone or in a big family, if we spend weekends at home or not… For real.
  • #12 And our challenge is to do it also for better.
  • #13 We have made great advances in IoT (500.000 cafeteras conectadas, 30 M de Smart meters in the next few years, , ejemplos!!!!!!); but now we have to bring them closer to people needs.
  • #14 And that means new challenges to close the distance between the old world and the new world we are creating, to make this new world go round.
  • #15 And who are we?
  • #16 We are the ones that are answering the real challenges
  • #17 We are those who are making technology more available.
  • #18 The builders of a new generation of IoT networks that connect more devices in a better way. The builders of new ubiquitous public wireless networks, implementing new LPWA technologies like NB-IoT and LTE-M, all of them longer battery life, deep indoor coverage and wider range. Including chipset manufacturers with hybrid multitech proposals to support the evolution of networks and swapping between them.
  • #19 The Manufacturers that make possible the concept of Global SIM: this is that one SIM card made here will work anywhere in the world, no matter the device or the country. Implementing new form factors and flexibility paradigms like the eSIM
  • #20 Those who understand that solutions cannot be vendor dependent; that standards and interoperability shall go along together.
  • #21 Those who are also producing scalable technologies. Simplifying network models to manage the trillions of things that will be connected. Deploying device control protocols like LWM2M (lightweight m2m) to fully manage the lifecyle of devices, from activation to access to services, in a simple way and for millions of them
  • #22 the creators of a wide range of devices that fit different technologies, multiple use cases, fostering a robust ecosystem. Open hardware communities as key actors building universal, versatile and multipurpose devices.
  • #23 Those who keep scalability in mind: the only way to give the customers the prices they will be willing to pay.
  • #24 We, the companies shouldn´t behave as units, but as an ecosystem
  • #25 Those who are cooperating to simplify the management of this new world of millions of connected devices
  • #26 Developing management solutions, platforms and protocols for any HW or SW component
  • #27 The so-called IoT enablers are the ones who are giving meaning to the data mining
  • #28 Who are opening easy ways to route big data from devices to cloud platforms or customer data centers. Including data routing, this is, intelligence in the use of the data from the very beginning: Not just connecting but adding value just from the connection
  • #29 Who are developing the tools that squeeze info as never before: machine learning, cognitive computing, data streaming and event processing…
  • #30 Who are making data truly customer friendly, either for discovering or improving their business models.
  • #31 And last but not least the professionals and companies that keep people safe all around this new connected world.
  • #32 The designers of security and identity guidelines and services
  • #33 Those who prevent devices from being used as weapons and
  • #34 Protecting people from being used as data cattle.
  • #35 Those who believe that Future should always mean no more fears.
  • #36 We have accepted these challenges. We are the ones that are changing them into business opportunities the only possible way:
  • #37 focusing on people needs, on real customer oriented communication.
  • #38 Not to change people. But to change us for what they need.
  • #39 Giving an answer to these challenges is how we are enabling IoT
  • #40 Because we have a unique opportunity So people may help us to make this unique opportunity come true
  • #41 So who are we? We are a whole ecosystem of professionals and companies, both providers and customers, that we at Telefonica like to call
  • #43 Thingnovating means making things happen. And I’d like to believe that we are making things happy too.
  • #44 Thingnovators are the ones who Think IoT, Sell IoT, Buy IoT…build IoT You who are doing IoT right now.
  • #45 I encourage you all to keep on doing it
  • #46 Let’s do IoT
