EO research within Horizon 2020 represents an important area of opportunity and a major funding source for Irish researchers (in Higher Education Institutes (HEIs), Industry, and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs)). One of the key challenges for Irish researchers wanting to participate in the Horizon 2020 SC5 specifically is to target and identify possible relevant consortia to partner with. This EPA Small Scale Study project (2015-SE-SS- 2) is focused on opport- unities for Irish researchers for participation in the Horizon 2020 topic – ‘SC5-18-2017: Novel in-situ observation systems’. This report is part of a study which aims to map research excellence and capacity, in Ireland and at EU level, to support participation in Horizon 2020. The output of this study will support researchers who wish to participate in consortia applying for funding under this topic in the forthcoming 2017 call. Total of 83 projects identified across the databases searched Total of 20 Horizon 2020 projects identified Total of 63 FP7 projects identified Under Horizon 2020 Irish researchers involved in 3 Earth Observation related research projects to date (Feb 2016) Under FP7 Irish researchers were involved in 5 EO related research projects EO research activities under Horizon 2020 are considered an essential element to accompany, and build on the invest- ments made by the EU in Copernicus, and in the Global Earth Observation Systems of Systems (GEOSS). Research and innovation actions addressing EO, aims at developing innovative solutions to complete the in-situ component of Copernicus and GEOSS.
