dancer but now, at such an important moment of my life, my skills betrayed me and the tables
turned. Every time I heard the sound of laughter from the audience it felt as though they were

To become a laughingstock at my school, reduced from a popular girl to a dorky clown who is

In the book Ordinary People by Judith Guest the person I relate with most is going to be Conrad
Jarrett. Conrad is the son of Calvin and Beth. In the story Conrad was in a boating accident with
his brother which caused his brother s death and Conrad blamed himself for his death. Then
Conrad a year later tried to commit suicide and it forced him to have to spend time in a hospital
to get better. When Conrad gets out he still feels little purpose in life and no motivation. He
starts to see Dr. Berger to help him recover from everything he has been through. My relation
with his problems isn t exactly the same but I can relate in a way. My stepdad had a car accident
and the car accident caused his death. Me and my familywere devastated when we found out. It can
really change a lot when a family member dies.
In chapter 13 Conrad gets into an argument with his mother. Beth hears from Lazenby s mother
that Conrad quit the swim team. Beth is mad because he quit and didn t tell them about it. Conrad
says that he just spends his time at the library, Conrad is getting angry and says that he would have

I. Introduction to the Hoover Dam According to the Cobuild Advanced Learning Dictionary, a
dam is defined as, A wall that is built across a river in order to stop the water flowing and to make a
lake. The Hoover Dam is located in the Colorado River between Arizona and Nevada. It was first
called the Boulder Dam but was later named the Hoover Dam. It was named after President Herbert
Hoover. Hoover was not only president but also an engineer, and when he was Secretary of
Commerce (before being President) he urged the construction of the dam. The dam is 726 feet tall
and is about 1200 feet wide. The Hoover Dam was starting to be built in March of 1931.

This is because of a drought in Lake Mead and a high demand for the water in the Colorado River.
If the water level falls too low, the dam will no longer be able to generate power. This is causing
new workers to make five new wide head turbines that are being designed to be used by 2017.

II. How It Was Built There were many steps to building the Hoover Dam. The first step was to
blast the canyon walls of the Black Canyon. The blasting of the canyon walls helped make four
diversion tunnels to move the constant flow of the Colorado s River water around where the
workers were constructing the dam. There were two tunnels made on each side of the canyon.
When it was summer the tunnels would be very very hot ( about 140, but in the winter the
tunnels would be the exact opposite. When the canyon walls were blasted the extra rock was
then used to make a different route for the Colorado River. After blasting the walls and clearing
the rock, workers would then clear the walls of the Black Canyon. During the clearing of the
walls, the workers carried 44 pound jackhammers to get rid of the unstable rock. Workers hung to

southeastern France. His father, Joseph Francois, was the justice of the peace from 1780 to

he would be paid $12,000 to execute the statue and the bronze would be provided. It took 2 years
to make the plaster cast and a lot of trial and error. A statue of this size of bronze had not been
attempted in the United States to that date. The bronze was from cannons which were captured by
Andrew Jackson during the second war with England. The statue was dedicated in January 8, 1853
and placed in LaFayette Square in Washington, D.C. It is still there, directly across from the White
House. Congress was so pleased with the delightfully original statue that they added $20,000 to
the fee which had already been paid. With the mold already made, Mills was commissioned to
make the same statue to be placed in New Orleans in 1856. A third replica was ordered for
Nashville, Tennessee and dedicated in 1880. Mills next project was an equestrian statue of George
Washington. He was also chosen to complete Statue of Freedomwhich was designed by Thomas
Crawford. Crawford had gotten as far as making the plaster model but had died before having the
chance to cast the statue in bronze. Mills purchased land close to Washington and built a studio
