What kind of
media
institution might
distribute your
media product
and why?
What is an institution?
 An
institution is a company that disperses a
 media product for audience consumption.

 Popularinstitutions include: BBC, The UK
Film Council, Vertigo Films, Film Four.
 However, I believe You Tube to be a great way of distributing
my film and the fact it’s a free way of doing so, I think it is the
best option. The whole world has access to YouTube and
they’re able to respond with their ideas.

 YouTube is a video sharing site which was founded in the
early months of 2005. It’s the best way to upload videos and
receive feedback for your own creations.
Forms of distribution
 Another way of film distribution would be either local
film festivals or national film festivals. Entering the short
film into one of these festivals could cause it to be
notices for its individualistic qualities by an indie film
    company, such as Warp films.

 Other methods might include short film competitions
such as the Virgin Shorts. The Virgin Shorts
Competition is made for young directors who need a
boost. They’d be excellent to approach as they accept
feature films that last 2 – 3 mins.
Where would an institution
disperse a film product?

 A filmwould be sent to the cinemas, either
  nationally or internationally. However, after
being at the cinema for 4-5 months, the film
would then get dispersed to shops.
What else does an institution
do?

 Before making the film, the producers can go
to an institution to pitch their idea for the film.
They also need to establish that the institution
 would fun their project.
