WHO WOULD BE OUR
AUDIENCE FOR OUR MEDIA
THRILLER
BY DAISY
OUR AGE RATING
THIS WILL MEAN THAT MOSTLY STUDENTS AND ADULTS WILL BE WATCHING OUR FILM AND THIS
GOES WITH HOW WE HAVE ATTRACTED OUR AUDEINCE. OUR FILM IS VERY GENDER MUTUAL
HOWEVER, DUE TO THE POTAGONIST BEING A WOMEN (WHICH GOES AGAINST STEREOTYPES)
IT MAY APPEAL MORE TO WOMEN THAN MEN.
We used our research of thriller films and research into the BBFC to see what category our
thriller film fits into. We decided to make our age rating a 15 due to our films content; this
means that our film is only suitable for 15 year olds and older.
We decided this was an appropriate age rating because throughout our film there is strong
violence with some gory images but doesn’t dwell on injury too much. In our film we show
gory images but the storyline isn't based around the injury. There is a strong threat to the
protagonist which younger children may find disturbing.
DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILING
Demographic profiling in our case is an outline of who our
audience/viewers are going to be, for example, their gender,
age, ethnicity, income, life style etc. This was very important
whilst considering who our target audience would be and what
age rating we would decide to use. The picture displays a table,
which shows different letter bands which the demographics are
broken down into dependent on their job or status.
OUR DEMOGRAPHIC GROUP
Interests/dislikes: it is important that our demographic enjoys socialising as this will mean that they can get more
involved and will be more attracted through social media to create further buzz for everyone. If they enjoy
meeting up with their friends then they are more likely to go to the cinemas more frequently. They will also enjoy
using technology and getting involved in social media which has allowed them to connect with us. Their dislikes
may be, not being able to socialise due to being a student and not having enough money to go out or a working
adult and not having the time to go to the cinema. This is a good dislike for us as they can watch and get involved
for free at home by the click of a button; reducing any inconvenience.
Occupation: it is important that our audience has spare time where they are able to get involved and watch films.
This means that primarily we are targeting people in the band working class. This will mean students and people
who are earning minimum wage and don’t have loads of money.
What do you do in your spare time? – This is why its important for our audience to not have a hectic lifestyle, as
they will need to have time to go out at the weekend and have holidays to socialise
Favourite film – due to the proliferation in technology people are very influenced as to what genre they enjoy to
watch, therefore it can vary.
How would you like a film to make you feel? - our audience will need to enjoy a thrilling experience which makes
them feel a range of emotions. This will mean that they would enjoy what getting an adrenaline rush feels like,
including making them feel anxious, scared, excited and most of all on edge
Favourite type of music – instrumental or pop would be an ideal demographic for our audience. This is because
pop usually attracts people that go along with the societal trends as to what they listen too meaning they can be
influenced easily into watching our film. Instrumental because in our thriller film we used a lot of intense
instrumental music which they would enjoy how it makes them feel, adding to the experience as a whole.
PSYCHOGRAPHIC PROFILING
WHAT IS IT?
The study of opinion’s, personality's, attitudes and interests. So, in
our case this would be our audiences lifestyles, interests, attitudes,
activities and values.
This is what made our research so important such as our audience
feedback through our questionnaire.
We considered all of the potential people that we were reaching,
this helped us to get a clear picture of who would fit our
psychographic profiling. Having this information helped us to be
able to gain a idea how we could address their marketing needs
and appeal to them more specifically.
PSYCHOGRAPHIC PROFILING
• The psychographic group of people we are attracting are people that enjoy an
adrenaline rush, enjoying things that makes them on edge; creating excitement,
anxiousness and anticipation which our target audience seeks. Making our film a
thrilling experience, which is perfect for adrenaline rush seekers.
• They will be attracted to our film as there is a strong sense of the unknown
throughout creating a sense of suspense, by doing this we are fulfilling
conventions and giving our viewer's an experience that they desire.
• Genres that our psychographic group will be attracted to would be hybrids of
horror/thriller films. This is because horror films also include a sense of the
unknown, keeping the audience on edge and scared of what else may happen
next. The film genres are similar in the way that they make the audience feel for
example, anxious, excited and intrigued, heightening the sensation of tension.
We have incorporated gory themes which makes the audience feel panic and
would be perfect for people who are into horror films also. This broadens our
target audience that is attracted to our film.
• This group enjoys socialising and going out to places trying things they haven’t
done before. Due to this they enjoy seeing films which have only just come out.

FILMS THAT OUR TARGET AUDIENCE MAY ALSO ENJOY
All of these films create a sense of anticipation and mystery for the viewers; as we
believe ours does. The audience is left continuously guessing about what is going to
happen next as the plot unfolds. There is a clear danger towards the protagonist making
them very vulnerable gripping the audience to continue watching; creating a truly
thrilling experience for the viewers. My audience profiles show that this is how they
want to feel while watching my films, meaning they will enjoy other films that make
them feel the same way.
