How did you use media technologies in the construction, research,
planning and evaluation stages.
AS to A2
Throughout my AS studies I used a range of hardware, software and platforms
in order to present my blog. Even though I thought the range of media
technologies I used was good, whilst performing my A2 media blog, I realised
there was potential to use even more in order to make my blog even more
multimedia than it already was. Additionally I took into consideration the errors I
made in my AS blog such as repeating the same platform, as well as the
hardware and software I used in order to produce my AS media project.
Research stage
During my research and planning stages I used what I learned from my AS blog and made sure that
the research I conducted was precise to the genre of music video that I was planning to create in order
to make sure my final product was as close to a real life media text as possible. I was able to produce
this research initially through the use of the search engine google as that is where I was able to
receive the most relevant and influential search results. Furthermore, the use of youtube was vital for
my research as this was where I analysed relevant pop music videos in order to decode the generic
conventions of a pop video. However the school’s internet had a filter on Youtube so I was not able to
look at all the videos I wanted to analyse, such as Ariana Grande Side to Side, however another music
site named VEVO was easily accessible through the school’s internet and I was able to analyse
videos that I wanted to easily on there.
Research Stage (Continued)
I constructed my research in a variety of forms ranging from slideshows to prezis and vox pops, which
I had to edit and render on the programme Adobe Premiere Pro. The effect of using these different
platforms allowed me to add a variety to my blog as I was presenting on the website blogger as it is an
easy and accessible way for many people to access and view my work.
I used a range of hardware in order to put all of this research together. My main use was my
chromebook as that is what I used in order to find out and constructed the majority of my research
tasks. I also had to use a Nikon D3002 DSLR in order to film my vox pop and I used the platform
Adobe Premier Pro CS6 in order to edit and complete the vox pop.
Research - What I used
Planning Stage
During my planning stage I looked at how I undertook the task at AS and used my experience in order
to make sure I was focused on the task at hand, creating a pop music video. I used my chromebook in
order to produce nearly all my planning tasks, I also used hand drawn work as well. My chromebook
was used to produce a prezi which had all of my planning (constructed beforehand) on. For example I
had hand drawn storyboards which was scanned through the school’s printer in order to place it on
my blog. I also used google docs in order to save all my planning as I was creating the cast, script,
costume, prop, and location elements. I presented all this work on blogger as the base of my blog was
all on blogger, and like my research it was easily accessible for my teacher and for others to view.
Planning - What I used
Construction Stage
During the construction stage I was able to use all of my experience in filming and editing in order to
make my products look like as much of a real text as can be. I used a Nikon D3002 DSLR to film all of
the music video. The reason being is that I wanted a better quality video than the one I produced in my
foundation portfolio, therefore I requested to use a better quality camera that my school provided. We
used a tripod to film most of the steady shots, however we also used steady hand in some elements
as we did not always have access to a tripod. When it came to editing the video I used Adobe
Premiere Pro CS6. The reason being is that I did not want to use bland programs like iMovie as they
did not have as many editing tools what Premiere Pro has. I was able to produce new ideas into my
final edit using Premiere Pro, which allowed me to conform to the ideals that we wanted to produce
through the video. I edited on a Mac at school as it was suppose to be the best use of hardware in
order to produce my work efficiently and quickly. However the rendering stage of editing took a long
time which I was surprised as Macs are suppose to me ‘made for editing’.
Construction Stage (continued)
When it came to making the digipak and poster I went through using a lot of hardware and software in
order to create the images that I intended to create. I used the Nikon D3002 DSLR camera in order to
do the photoshoot that was needed in order to put the artist on the products. I used both Photoshop
and Pixlr in order to create the poster and digipak, mainly due to accessibility reasons. At school I was
able to use Photoshop as the school had the program, however whilst at home I only had access to
my chromebook which only had Pixlr on it so I had to get use to both editing programs. In the end this
was an advantage to me as they both had different features that allowed me to create specific effects
that I wanted such as the sketched photo of the artist.
All of my products (the video, digipak and poster) were posted onto my blog on blogger. Again like the
research and planning stages it was so my teacher was able to access it easily and people were able
to view my work with ease.
