Evaluation Question 4 –
How did you use Media Technologies in the
  Research & Planning, Construction and
            Evaluation stage?
Research & Planning
• During the Planning of my Media project, I used various forms of
Media Technologies to assist me as much as possible.
I used YouTube not only in the Planning Stages, but also
through the other stages of my production. I used it in
the Planning stage to allow me to research official videos,
made by the official artists, who fall into my Genre of
music (Indie/Pop). This allowed me to notice Conventions
throughout the videos, for me to either ‘meet, develop or
                         challenge’.

Blogger was also a piece of media technology of which I
used all the way through the production of my video. I
used Blogger within the Planning stage in order to allow
me to keep all of my thoughts and ideas on an
electronically saved online system. I used Blogger
because it was very easy to used and understand, and all
of my work was all in the same place.
I used Microsoft Office to make documents of ideas, which
I kept, and posted some on Blogger. I have used Microsoft
Office because I have a good knowledge of how to use it,
and I believe it was the best program for what I wanted to
achieve. I used programs such as Word (For writing up
 documents), and PowerPoint (For slideshows/Slideshare).

I have used Google through most stages of the production.
It was the only search engine I used to find and locate
information on the internet. This has mainly been finding
      other music videos/other DigiPaks/Artists/Genre
Conventions etc. It is one of the most well known search
engines, and very simple and fast to use.
I also used some websites while doing the Research &
Planning. One of these were UK Tribes. UK Tribes allowed
me to look into the different genres, and analyse the
different demographics and characteristics of the groups
of people that listen to that genre of music.

I also used a website called Bauer Media. It is secondary
data which has further got me a better understanding of
the Demographics and Psychographics of my target
                         audience.
Construction
• During the Construction, I used lots of technologies to help
                film/record sounds/edit etc.
For all of the filming required for my music video, I used a
Panasonic HC-X800 Full HD video camera. I used this
camera mainly because of its High Definition picture and
ability to shoot both in 720/1080p. It is also very easy to
use and get the hang of. On top of this, it doesn’t use a
tape, instead it used an SD card to store the footage on.
This allowed me to watch the recording and then decide if I
needed to re-shoot them. I put the SD Card into the
computer in order to upload the filming footage.

I also used a Nikon SLR during the Construction stage. I
only really used this because it gave very high quality still
images and I needed the evidence of the filming to then
                   later put onto my Blog.
The monitor I used was a Hanns.G. It is a very good
monitor, giving a high amount of pixels and can cope with a
high number of fraps. It also allows a lot of
colours, allowing to give a much deeper colour.

The actual computer that I used was custom built, but into
a Novatech case, with Windows 7 as the main operating
system. The computer had high specs, and it did deal with
a lot of the editing very well. However when you try and do
too many things on it, such as rendering and on the
internet, the computer does slow down, as well as lag a
little when too many effects are put onto a video clip/
During the construction of my music video, I used a program called Sony Vegas Movie Studio
Platinum 12. During my AS studies, we used Premier Pro, however now we got new
computer, it also came with new software, which meant we had to learn a completely new
                                     editing software.
Fades were one of the most common affects used with my project. The fades could be
done in two distinct ways, either one clip fading into another clip, or just one clip slowly
                                fading out into blackness.

This shows one clip being faded into another clip (Cross Fade). To make this
happen, you just simply slide one clip over the other, and it will look like this. The
actual image you will be creating will look like as shown (Top Left).

This is a fade where it will just fade out into a black screen. The editing bar will look
like this and the image will slowly fade into darkness.
I also used different effects during my project, such as changing the brightness and contrast of
                                     the actual filming image.

By clicking on this button that’s is on the filming clip (In the editing bar), you
can alter the Brightness and Contrast of the image portrayed.

By doing this, it changes the brightness of different shades within the image, as well as
making certain points stand out more than others.
In the construction profess, I also zoomed in on certain filming clips, to enable me to focus on
a specific part of the screen.

To get onto the screen to enable you to zoom in on a set area, just
click the little ‘Event Pan/Crop’ icon to get onto this screen.

Then just drag the corners of the box (With the white circles) in order to zoom in/out.

Here shows the zoomed in image that has been over-laid
with another image, in order to allow the audience to
focus on two different film clips.
Finally, I also applied different affects to change the overall look of the image. This gives a
totally different tone to the film clip, and makes the audience reacting in a different way than
if the clip was just a standard edit.

By applying different ‘Magic Bullet’ affects, if
changes the look of the picture (As seen on the
left). I used an affect called ‘Blockbuster’, and this
darkened the edges of the clip, and put a slight
                                           coloured tint overlaying the clip.

I also altered the ‘Colour Curves’ on some clips.
This allowed me to change the darkness of some
shades of colour, as well as brightening other
                                           shades.
I used Adobe Photoshop CS4 in order to edit my Ancillary Tasks. Photoshop
allowed me to change the tone of some colours, as well as allowing to add
text and alter set texts to my liking.

I used Photoshop CS4 to makes changes to all of my
Ancillary Tasks (Front/Back Cover and the
                                        Promotional Poster).

I added fonts to all of the different tasks, as well as
imbedding images to give it a professional look (E.g.
Bar code on the back cover). All of these tasks were
relatively simple and were easy enough on
Photoshop. I also changed the Colour Curves (Only
on the Front Cover) to really make some colours
stand out, such as the bright red/orange from the
flames. I believe this gave it a very sticking look, and
would be easily noticeable from potential
                                             audiences’.
Evaluation
• During the Evaluation stage, I mainly used computer based media
                technologies to Evaluative my project
I used Blogger, as well as other internet forms, such as Social Networking sites in order to
record my work, and to help to achieve my set work.

I used the Social Networking sites ‘Facebook’ and ‘Twitter’ in order to get audience feedback
and their views of my music video, either being good or bad points. I chose to use these
because they are available to a large amount of people, and I was able to receive a lot of
                               audience feedback because of it.

Blogger was the only internet blogging service I used to record all of my evaluation
comments. I used blogger in AS so it was already very familiar to me, and was very easy to
                                           use.
