Evaluation Question 4 - Who
would be the audience for your
media product?
MATTHEW PARKS
Target Audience:
 We decided on a target audience while we were in the planning stages of
our film, this would then enable us to shoot our film the way we wanted
that would match the target audience. We decided that this would be
young adults aged 15 – 20. As our film is based around psychological
horror, we would target people in this age gap that have an interest in this
type of film, and are entertained by the tension and action that our film
has. We tried to keep our film as close as we could to the genre title of
Psychological horror to try and attract as many people as we could.
Research:
 In the pre production staged of making our film, we conducted a
questionnaire which asked our audiences who they think the target
audience would be for our film, and out of 35 people that voted, 31 people
chose categories between 15-24. These were the age groups we were
looking for as this is our target audience, and this shows that we have put
the right content in our film to be able to match our target audience.
How The Research was Used:
 After conducting research, we decided to look at common patterns and
activities that these age groups partake, for example, playing computer
games, and from this we added a scene where the two characters go to
play on the PlayStation.
 We also added in a scene where on of the characters is walking while
listening to music through his earphones. We added this scene in as we
believed it would create a level where the audience can connect to the
character, as listening to music is a big part of our target audiences daily
life.
How the Research was used (Cont):
 The two main characters in our film, Josh and Luke are both 17 year old
boys. This would give some of the similar aged audiences to relate to, as
would the fact that they are both boys, although we don't have a specific
gender target. The fact that the two characters are best friends can mean
that social groups can again relate to the characters, this attracts a larger
demographic.
