Ways In Which My Media Magazine Develops Forms and Conventions My magazine is conventional and is based and styled on Q magazine this can be seen with the style of masthead and layout of main images, cover lines and pull quotes. A Masthead is a recognisable logo that build brand identity. I choose this masthead because it is minimalistic and is appealing to my target audience, this masthead is also similar to that of the recognisable Q magazines masthead. A sky line is a line that features at the top of a magazine to provide additional information about the magazine and its content. I chose my sky line for two reasons, Firstly because it is like Q magazines skyline and secondly because it being the UK’s Number one teen magazine will make people think if other people have voted it number one then they are also likely to buy it making sales increase. A pull quote is a direct quote from somebody this person is likely to be a celebrity if appearing in a magazine. I chose my pull quote to get the attention of the readers, Also a celebrity climbing a mount Everest is likely to be of interest to the reader. A main image the primary image on a page. I chose this image because it is a strong image that stands out against the background and content, This image is also suitable for the target audience, I also chose to keep following the Q style with the position and the size of the image.
A bar code is a A barcode is an optical machine-readable representation of data. I chose to include a bar code to give the magazine a more professional and realistic look. A cover line is additional information about the contents of the magazine. I chose my cover lines to give interesting parts of some of the magazines content to attract the attention of the readers to encourage them to buy my magazine. A subheading is not the main heading, But a heading for a subject with in the main subject. I chose the subheadings I used because they are appropriate to the magazine/ page. Again I followed the design for these of that of Q magazine but with the personalisation of the colour choice to match my magazine colour scheme. A Ps brush is an adobe photoshop brush that is down loadable from the internet that work like a stamp and print the desired object onto the layer. I chose the Ps brushes that I did because I felt they suited the house style of the magazine and helped to fill blank space.
My Media Product Represents A Particular Social Group My media product is a teen magazine this represents this particular social group in the following ways: The images are part of the representation of the teenager social group particularly into Pop/alternative. The main image portrays several images about the band , these are, Firstly that they are close friends and are friendly, fun, and out going, this can be related to the teenage social group as many teenagers are fun, friendly and out going as well as being friend orientated. Another way in which the images portrays the teenage social group is teenagers being independent and stylish, this is portrayed by the main images on the front cover and contents page. The magazine house style also represents the teenage social group in a couple of ways, how ever mainly in one way this is that the house style of the magazine is minimalistic, modern and clean cut, this is becoming increasingly popular among the teenage generation and they are increasingly demanding this. The magazine also appeals to the teenage social group by the article on the double page spread it is about topics that teenagers would understand and be interested in, also having the benefit of being written by teenagers for the teenagers.
What Kind Of Media Institution Might Distribute Your Media Product And Why? The kind of media institution that may distribute my magazine/media product would be a company such as Bauer media. This company would distribute a magazine like mine as they produce several like it already, as has already been mentioned my magazines is based on Q magazine and has a similar house style etc, Bauer media are the company that distribute
What I have learnt! I have learnt to use many more functions in adobe Photoshop I have learnt to use dafont text with in my magazine. To take as many photo’s as possible as the wider choose available the better That white space is some times acceptable.
Audience feed back! My survey shows that the audience believes my target audience is 16-18! My survey shows that the audience believes my target audience are predominantly male!
My survey shows that my audience thought that the weakest part of my magazine was the back ground! My survey shows that the audience felt that the pictures were the best features of the magazine. My survey shows that that the audience for my magazine thought it was mostly of the pop/mainstream genre.
My survey shows that most people would rate my magazine 7 or 8 out of 10! Over all the audience mostly supported what I thought of my magazine and confirmed that my magazine turned out mostly to how I wanted it to be i.e. The genre and target audience. Over all I feel my music magazine was a success how ever feel I feel there are a few points for improvement such as the background pointed out through my survey my the target audience.
