THE GSS PROJECT • Gaining Security Symbiosis – GSS • 3 years project • In the border between Sweden Norway • Less populated area • Many tourists (Jämtland 60000 inhabitants 120- 150000) • Long distances • E.g. The Jämtland police dept 600km x 450 km (equal size Ireland) • The overall goal of GSS is to contribute to increased security and thereby also increased quality of life for both the resident population and visitors to the border region.

UNDERLYING NEED • Limited knowledge about each others organizations • Rarely worked together • Map problems • Sweden limited access to Norwegian maps • Norway limited access to Swedish maps • Expressed need for regular training exercises from both countries • A couple of serious emergency situations
