A way to talk to friends at all hours of the day or night A way to stay connected to old friends and acquaintances across any distance A way to pass the time checking out pictures and profiles of friends and friends of friends and people you met once and more

  Tips for KeepingKids Safe on the Internet Monitor your child’s Internet use Check the browser history Talk to your kids about their Internet use For young kids, keep the computer in a public area of the home Teach kids how to use the Internet Safely, rather than simply filtering their internet use. Explore acceptable sites together and explain inappropriate sites Make sure your kids know to never share passwords or give out personal information, especially information that would allow someone to track them.   Tips for KeepingKids Safe on Facebook Sign up for Facebook yourself and befriend your child. Become familiar with Facebook and its safety features Monitor what your child is posting on his/her page. Think before you post. Have your children ask themselves Would I want my dad to see this? My teacher or professor? My future boss? If the answer is no, then don’t post it. Don’t post mean comments or jokes on your friends’ profiles if you don’t want them to do the same to you. Make sure your children set their privacy settings so that only their friends can see what they post. Also make sure they only accept people they know as their friends. Always report harassment, bullying, or inappropriate comments to an adult. Tell your children to “trust their gut.” If something that someone says or posts online does not feel right, then make sure your child reports it using the “Report” link, or tells you so you can report it.
