distrubution
What is distribution
• Film distribution is what happens after a film
is made. It involves the film maker attempting
to get there film out to as many places/
people as possible. They will either use a
distribution companies that does it for them
or they will attempt to do it themselves. It
involves putting it on websites, shipping it out
and sometimes showing it at a festival
Distribution companies
Film distribution companies are what a lot of
film makers do in order to get there film out. For
a film they will use there resources and contacts
in order to get there film to as many places as
possible.
• Hammer
• Kaleidoscope
• New line cinemas
Hammer
Hammer films is a production company founded in 1934. it is most known for its
horror and thriller films and is known for its classic thrillers such as Dracula and
Frankenstein as well as more modern ones like the woman in black.
I think that this production company would be right for our film as it is not ony
known for its genre defining thriller films but also its style of intense and
suspensful movies represents our film very well and as such I think they would
be a good company t consider for our film.
kaleidoscope
• This is a film distribution company that is one
of the fastest growing production companies
to be associated with thriller films. due to the
fact that it is an up and coming distribution
company it is much more likely to take our
film than a massive production company like
warner brothers for example. This means that
it is one of the main production company's we
would consider for our film.
New line cinema
• New line cinema is a very popular thriller production company it is
known for films like seven. A lot of the films is produces follow
similar aspects to our film meaning that it would be a good thriller
company to use as they are experienced in this genre ad would
know the steps that they should to distribute it to as many people
as possible. However due to them being such a large company it
would be hard to get them to distribute as it would cost a huge
amount of money.
appeal
• Our film would probably appeal to most places
outside of the UK this is because there isn't anything
to our film that makes it UK specific. The scenario is
also something that could happen anywhere on
earth. Because of all this our film would be a le to be
shown to a much wider audience without it seeming
odd or not relating to anyone.
Self distribution
• Self distribution is another route to go down however it defiantly
has its positives and negatives. On the upside sending your film to
festivals and putting it on websites is a much cheaper option and
you have full control over your films distribution. However it Is
extremely hard for your film to get seen anywhere doing it like this
and it is often potluck whether someone sees your film. Also
sending your film to a festival can cost a large fee and with the low
chance of your film getting seen it is a big risk to take On top of that
often a lot of the websites you put your film on will take huge cuts
of up to over half the price of the film meaning that turning a profit
can be extremely difficult. Because we don’t have any experience in
distribution it wouldn’t make sense to go down this route as we
wouldn’t know what we were doing and would likely get something
wrong.
