TALLER DE PRACTICA DOCENTE
TRAINEE: TRECH MARIA INES
PRACTICUM PERIOD: SECONDARY SCHOOL
SCHOOL: ESCUELA SECUNDARIA 2 – CORONEL DORREGO – BS. AS.
COURSE: 5TH UNICA CIENCIAS NATURALES
FINAL REPORT
Thinking back:
The original aim was to do the practicum period to comply with the attendance of the subject, and
above all was the challenge of being with a group of students for a period of time teaching them
and learning from them.
According to the feedback provided by the local observer, the aims activities and the resources
were coherent and were well chosen.
After the period finished I asked students for somea feedback, in those feedbacks they were very
kind and expressed that they enjoyed the period and that they learnt a lot.
I hadve to leant about the topics that I had to teach, that demanded an extra effort because as
they were CLIL lessons aboutas regards pollution, there was information that really I did not know
so apart from preparing the plans I has to do research and study myself.
I leant that classes are unpredictable, that there is always something unexpected in each class
that makes one grow and learn.
Thinking forward
If I had the chance of doing this project again I would try to adapt it according to the group. I
planned it this way because the target group was prepared to be taught under this plan.
This experience might change my actual way of planning and conducting classes.
As I said before, I might change my way of planning, and perhaps I might adapt myself more to the
students .
Thinking Inward
There is no doubt that this has been a rich experience, I have enjoyed it a lot a spent a wonderful
time, the group of students was very helpful and that made the task easier.
I am happy and satisfied with the work I have done here. Not only because I believe or feel that,
but because of the student’s and the teacher of the course feedbacks, which have been far from
positive.
Thinking outward.
These last questions are very difficult to answer. The only thing I can say, that the practicum
period as it is, and the way I delivered the classes was very different from the actual practices I
do in my real job. But a positive thing is that it has opened my eyes, and learnt me that there is
another way of teaching, which may or may not be more or less effective, but it is different, so it
is good to know that there are several possibilities and it is better to realize that as teachers we
can adapt ourselves to all the possible alternatives.
1 Unexpected situations in class sometimes appear. I wrote this, recalling an unexpected
situation the class I was teaching several ways of pollution, and there in the school playground a
lawn mower started. There machine worked with fuel, and apparently it was not working
properly, so there was smoke entering in the classroom. I used this as an example of air
contamination, and besides most students agreed, one of the students spoke about the
different engines ( I mean those which work with fuel and those which are electric) saying that
fuel engines made more noise than electrical ones that’s why they contaminate more. So I
realized that he was mixing up ideas. It was a question of engines, or noise, but it was clearly a
question of the smoke and the smell of it entering in the classroom. What I meant is, besides we
are humans and we can make mistakes, we as teachers, have to be prepared to try to solve these
situations, otherwise students may learn a wrong idea.
2.- I have been working as a teacher of secondary school for 10 years. My way / method of
planning and conducting classes is far from different from the way we applied during the
practicum.
Perhaps I am a bit old fashioned and insist on grammar and written tasks and do not promote a
lot of interaction among my students.
However , I realized that this method works better, perhaps other conditions such as the
group of the students, the pressures of the practicum, and the fact that I was being evaluated all
the time, played important roles in this aspect. But as a reflection I can say that I am going to
change my way of conducting my classes, I will change and adopt the method I used in the
Practicum, since for me students benefit more and it fosters more interaction. (same reflection
as regards the question o Thinking outward)
