Enthusiastic Car Graphics
I plan to use this as my working title as it says what it is about straight away. But also, it gets the
audience wondering hats so enthusiastic about it and its simple but snappy titles that mostly grab the
audience's attention.
Also, when searching for fanzines on the Internet with google search, if someone searches for car
fanzines, google will bring up a variety of things that have these key words in and gives you a list of
fanzines and websites, images etc related to what has been put in the search engine. Therefore, by
having the name 'Enthusiastic Car Graphics’ it will help to narrow down and bring the fanzine and
promotional video up on the internet.
Area of Activity:
Print – Fanzine
Video – Promotional
Audience:
My target audience would be 17-30 as at the age of 17 you are legally allowed to drive a car in the UK.
But the challenge for young drivers is that everything from car insurance to modifications can be quite
expensive, so when creating this fanzine at least it will not cost them anything to be able to view a
fanzine to do with the process of car graphics that they may enjoy. Plus, it will include things like car
designs, tools used, templates etc. Which is what many young drivers would be curious to know how
the design process works.
My project will be suitable for all ages from 17+ for all social status groups from E (lower grade
workers) to A (high managerial workers) and all genders. Also, many people from all social status will
at least have a car as it is a vital part of transport to help travel to work, college, and other places.
I have also increased the age range of my target audience because most car enthusiasts tend to be
around the age of 30 to around 40 and have more experience with cars and build a genuine interest
around cars. They also tend to have a better understanding of cars.
Furthermore, when considering my project, I will need to be in the mindset of my target audience so
that I can create something that will be interesting to them, includes the right amount of relevant
information to help them get interested as most information on fanzines, magazines, brochures etc. can
be quite boring and only the images attract people's attention. When I create my fanzine and
promotional video, I will make sure to include relevant images and key information and try to make it
appealing and engaging as much as possible. But also keep it relevant for my audience.
I will need to also consider about my resources because if I use different software or do something
slightly different due to the covid 19 crisis, it could affect the quality of my fanzine and promotional
video which could also affect the results of my fanzine and video and affect how it appeals and
engages the audience. So, if I am unable to use photoshop, illustrator or InDesign or Premier Pro I will
try to use a software like all three like gimp or coral draw etc, so that it does not affect how I plan to
create my fanzine too much. I will try to ensure that it is close to the quality of photoshop in case I do
use another software.
Rationale:
Throughout last year I have done a range of projects from print to audio, with that I have learnt and
gained a range of skills. However, I will be using the skills in my past print projects and video projects
for this current project as I will be creating a fanzine which is print based and a promotional video to
advertise the fanzine. I will use the skills I used to make a magazine cover from a past project. I will
also use the skills I have gained from software's like photoshop, gimp, InDesign etc. To help make this
project stand out from the rest of the projects I have done as this project decides my grade for the year.
Plus, I want this project to show all the skills I have learnt and more throughout the years.
However, the last print-based project I did was a small poster and front cover for a brochure, this will
have an impact on this current project as I will be doing something a little similar and I will have to put
the skills I used for my print project and use them all to my best of my abilities for this project to make it
stand out from earlier projects but also to help make it appealing and engaging for the audience.
I will also need to use the skills I learnt from the last video project I did which was a music video last
year. But I know that I do need to improve I this area so before my production for this project I will do
more video experiments, effects and learn more skills with software that are created for videos. This is
because like I said before I want to be able to create this project using skills to the best of my abilities
and to improve or learn new skills, I need to do it within the time I do experiments. Otherwise, it could
be too late and effect my FMP which could im0act my grade for the year and effect on whether I make
it to university or not.
Project Concept:
For my FMP project I plan to create a car graphics fanzine and a promotional video to advertise the
fanzine. The fanzine will have topics such as templates, tools used, before and after designs etc. The
reason I have chosen to do a fanzine is because I like doing print-based projects and because is based
around something I find passionate about. But I also chose to do a promotional video because I want to
be able to show that I can do a variety of skills and not just doing print-based projects all the time.
The research I need to look at is car graphics, software used to create car templates, the tools used to
apply and remove car wrap, types of car wrap etc. This research will help me with my project because
it is going to be a fanzine based around the car graphics and how the designs are made and put on the
cars etc. It will also give me a better understanding about each section I am researching but also in the
area I have an interest in.
I am also thinking of creating a survey to complete with people I know from different ages to get ideas
around whether they have a car, types of designs they would be interested in, cars in general etc. This
will then help me to build on the information and images to put on my fanzine and promotional video as
I want to ensure I can capture my audience’s attention. It will also give me a better understanding of
who my audience is, and I can try and be in their mindset when creating this project.
However, I will have to take into consideration that due to the covid 19 crisis I could be restricted to
some things as I will be working from home. So, I will have to be prepared in case anything changes,
which could also affect how this project goes and the outcome of the project.
Evaluation:
When it comes to evaluating my work, I plan to talk about the good and the bad, time management and
any improvements I would make. I will gain feedback from my peers and tutor on my work to help me
improve along the way before everything has to be submitted. However, I will be evaluating the project
throughout making the project. This is so that when I come to evaluate it at the end, I will have enough
to talk about.
