CLIMATE is:
Long term
Wide area
Measured over long spans of time
Seasonal changes
CLIMATE is the average of many year’s weather
observation
• Climate change refers to changes in weather conditions over a
long period of time.
• Usually refers to changes forced by human activities that
change the atmosphere.
• It is very slow and gradual change in weather.
 Greenhouse gases
 Deforestation
 Burning of fossil fuels
 Industrial processes
 Volcanic eruptions
 Agriculture
 Coal mining
Worldwide, people are paying serious attention to climate change.
Because so many systems are tied to climate, such as,
• People
• Plants and animals live
• Food production
• Availability and use of water
• Health Risks
• Rise in temperature
– Maximum temperature
– Optimum temperature
– Minimum temperature
• Global Warming
– Increase in temperature
• Acid Rain
– Acid rain burn and damage the whole plant or crop especially
leaves causing lower production.
• Ozone Depletion
– UV Rays hit the plants causing damage to the plant leaves and
also causing serious problems to Human beings
• Melting of Glaciers
– Causing Floods and low availability of water through out the
year for irrigation
• Extreme drought
– Due to Variability in temperature and rain patterns, extreme
drought occurs
• Atmospheric Gases
– Green house gases, Change in concentration of atmospheric
gases increase or decrease the activity of plants
• Soil Conditions
– Change in soil like soil Moisture, air , temperature, pH,
organisms
• Precipitation
– Changing rainfall patterns are likely to cause severe water
shortages and/or flooding as well as accelerate land degradation
– Change in precipitation amount effects the performance of the
crop.
• Atmospheric Humidity
All these effects that effect the crop ultimately effect
crop final yield or crop productivity and cause
decline in crop productivity
“Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and
economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food that meets their
dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life”.
Food Insecurity
A situation that exists when people lack secure access
to sufficient amounts of safe and nutritious food for normal growth and
development and an active and health life.
It may be caused by the unavailability of food,
insufficient purchasing power, inappropriate distribution or inadequate
use of food at the household level.
Due all above discussed climate factors cause decrease in crop
production, which results in small quantity of food for people,
lower will be the Food security.
Some other Reasons Due to which people not get food
• Population increasing very rapidly while the production not
increasing as much which make the food difficult for people.
• Prices of food is also very important factor for food security, more
prices of food people not able to buy food.
• Transportation of food, if food not move or transport to the areas
where food less in quantity it severely threaten the Food Security
