From Sperm to Baby
Step-by-Step Journey of Human
Reproduction
Step 1: Ejaculation and Sperm
Release
• Millions of sperm are released into the vagina
during sexual intercourse. They begin their
journey toward the fallopian tubes.
Step 2: Ovulation
• Around the middle of a woman's cycle, an egg
is released from the ovary into the fallopian
tube, ready for fertilization.
Step 3: Fertilization
• One sperm successfully enters the egg,
forming a zygote. This usually happens in the
fallopian tube.
Step 4: Zygote to Blastocyst
• The zygote begins dividing into more cells and
becomes a blastocyst as it travels toward the
uterus.
Step 5: Implantation
• The blastocyst implants into the lining of the
uterus, marking the start of pregnancy.
Step 6: Embryo Development
• The implanted blastocyst is now called an
embryo. It begins forming tissues, organs, and
the placenta.
Step 7: Fetus Stage
• After 8 weeks, the embryo is called a fetus.
Growth and organ development continue.
Step 8: Full-Term Pregnancy
• Pregnancy lasts around 40 weeks. The fetus
matures and prepares for birth.
Step 9: Labor and Birth
• Labor begins with uterine contractions. The
baby is delivered through the birth canal, and
the umbilical cord is cut.
