Functions of
Research Design
Important Concept
Your achievement is worth praising
What you want to study
How you are going to conduct your
study
What procedure will you adopt
How will you carry out the task
What should you do or not to do
Core of research design
What is a Research Design
Research design is a rode map
Answers should beValid, objective and accurate
It is a procedural-cum-operational
Research design is the arrangement of conditions
Research design is a plan of decision about questions
Q1-What study you give to use
Q2- How you select your respondent
Q3-How you collect your information from respondent
Q4-How you analyzed your data
Q5-How you communicate your findings
Researcher Justification
Your rational and justification shape your decision about
your research journey
Critically support your justification from literature
reviewed
Results are reliable and valid for you and others
According toThyer
A traditional research design is a blue-print for how
research study is completed, operational variables used
for measured and selecting sample of study, collecting
data is used for testing hypotheses and analys the results.
Functions of Research
Design:
There are two main functions of research design:
1. The first one refers the identification of procedures to undertake a study.
2. Second one emphasizes the importance of their quality to ensure validity of
research.
Through research design you can:
• Conceptualize an operational plan.
• Ensures the procedures to obtain accurate answers of
research questions.
Important requirements:
• Specify everything clearly .
• Everything should be written in detail.
• Named the research design like:- before and after,
comparative, random experiment etc.
• Should provide information about the following:
Who will constitute the study population.
How will the study population be identified.
What type of data should be collected for use and why.
In the case of interviews where will they be conducted.
How should respondents contact you if they have
queries.
Theory of causality and the
research design:
in social sciences, there are many causes that are responsible for changing a
phenomenon, while on other hand there are so many factors on which we do not
have any control.
these factors can effect the phenomenon.
sometimes there are one independent variable and two.
if you add more independent variable then it makes it more complicated,
expensive and difficult.
All these variables have link with dependent variables.
It helps you to understand different set of independent
variables that cause the change in the dependent
variables.
 It also helps you to determine and isolate the impact of
different categories of variables.
You validly, objectively and accurately verify the impact
of independent variables.
Agency
Visits marriage councelling service helps
Agency solue clients
Councelling marital problems economicmoney
Client study losses a job
Better job relationship real life
There are set of factors that can effect the relationship
between counseklling and marriage problems.
1. Counselling (independent variables)
2. The change in positive and negative in the extent of
martial problems (extraneous variables).
Hence in any casual relationship, changes in the
independent variablesmay be attributed to three types of
variables:
Change in
the
dependent
variables
Change
attributable
to
independent
variables
Change
attributable
to
extraneous
variables
Change
attributable
to a chance
or random
variables
Types of counselling service Study population Extent of material problems
1.Self-realisation
2.Change in economic condition
3.Birth of child
4. Pressure from friends and relatives
5. Involvement in another relationship etc
Independent variable
Dependent variable
Affect
