The Boy and the Apple Tree
FUNDAMENTAL PARTS OF A COMPUTER Output Devices
OUTPUT DEVICES Is any peripheral device that presents, displays, alters, or records output after it has left a computer’s system.
COMPUTER SPEAKER CONVERT OUTPUT DATA INTO SOUND.
MONITOR IS THE MOST POPULAR OUTPUT DEVICE, IT RECIEVES SIGNALS FROM A VIDEO CARD INSIDE OF THE SYSTEM UNIT AND GIVES THE USER A GRAPHICAL OR TEXTUAL DISPLAY.
The monitor looks like a television screen. It is also called Visual Display Unit (VDU) It is used to display information from the computer. There are coloured as well as black and white monitors.
The monitor displays text and graphics. Based on the technology used, monitor is classified into two types. They are, –         Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors –         Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitors
Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitors

PRINTER CREATE IMAGES ON PAPER, PLASTIC, CLOTH AND OTHER PRINT MEDIA USING TEACHNOLOGIES LIKE INK TRANSFER, HEAT TRANSFER, CHEMICAL REACTIONS, AND PHYSICAL FORCE.

Types of Printers Laser Printers- uses toner and internal laser to print. The most popular is HP (Hewlett Packard. Most laser printers offer excellent printing capability. The average laser printers prints in black. Color laser printers are about three to four times the cost of one color laser printers.

INKJET OR BUBBLE JET USES INK TO PRINT. USUALLY ARE AVAILABLE IN COLOR. THE QUALITY OF THE PRINT IS DETERMINED BY THE DPI (Dots Per Inch). The higher the DPI resolution the better quality of the print. This is based on the number of dots that the printer can draw within one square inch.

DOT-MATRIX PRINTER CREATES CHARACTERS BY STRIKING PINS AGAINTS AN INK RIBBON. EACH PIN MAKES A DOT, AND COMBINATIONS OF DOTS FORM CHARACTERS AND ILLUSTRATIONS.

PRINTERS ARE ALSO CLASSIFIED BY THE FF. CHARACTERISTIC: QUALITY OF TYPE: the output should be either letter quality, near letter quality, or draft quality. SPEED: measured by characters per second (cps) or pages per minute (ppm), the speed of printers varies widely.
Dot Matrix Printer Inkjet Printer Laser Printer Prints characters in the form of dots Prints fully formed characters Prints fully formed characters Speed: 200-540 characters per second Speed: 4-8 pages per minute Speed: 4-20 pages per minute Not very expensive Moderately priced Expensive
IMPACT : impact printers include all printers that work by striking an ink ribbon, like daisy wheel, dot-matrix, and line printers. NON IMPACT- non impact printers include laser printers and ink jet printers. The differences between impact and non-impact printers is that impact printers are much noisier.
Touch Screen A touch screen is a computer display screen that is sensitive to human touch. It allows the user to interact with the computer by touching pictures or words displayed on the screen.
Touch screens are used to display the output information on the screen as well as to give input by touching the words or pictures on the screen. Thus it is an input/output device. Touch screens are normally used when information has to be accessed with minimum effort.

END OF THE LESSON Thanks for Listening

TEST YOUR SELF An output device that convert data into sound. Gives the user the graphical or textual display. Create images on paper or other print media. A printer that uses ink to print. Printing speed is measured in cps or ppm. What is cps and ppm?
Assignment/Agreement What is the difference between input devices and output devices. Explain your answer by uploading photos of both devices. See all the presentation posted on the School ICT Facebook walls.
