The document presents a new protocol called G-DEEC (gateway based multi-hop distributed energy efficient clustering) for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks aimed at improving energy management and network lifetime. It incorporates rechargeable gateway nodes to optimize data transmission efficiency by decreasing the communication distance between sensor nodes and the base station. Simulation results indicate that G-DEEC significantly outperforms existing protocols in terms of reducing the number of dead and half-dead nodes, thereby enhancing network stability and operational longevity.
