- 2. Genre – what does it mean? Genre: A French word meaning category, class, style, type or variety. In pairs, brainstorm as many genres as you can think of!! This can be from any media form/medium.
- 4. Conventions You recognised all those genres because of their CONVENTIONS!!! Conventions are the rules or ‘ingredients’ of particular media texts or genres For example, a convention of Sci-fi is outer space In pairs, think of a genre (from a medium of your choice) and write a list of it’s conventions

Media Language: Genre We analyse genre using the acronym CMINTS: C haracter (the type of characters found) M ise-en-scene (what’s on the screen) I conography (signs that are unique to the genre) N arrative (storyline & plot) T hemes (regularly occurring message/s) S ound (iconic sounds we associate with a genre)
- 6. For Example: Action Adventure C haracter : Strong, middle-aged male hero. Attractive female who needs saving. M ise-en-Scene : Quick edits, fast paced, locations often exotic or urban I conography : Guns, cars, planes, etc N arrative : Linear, fast paced, happy ending T hemes : Good vs Evil, romance, duals, revenge S ound : Cars, guns, dialogue/talking, rock soundtrack
