Recognise the importance of setting goals Be able to identify at least one long, medium and short term goal Understand how to create goals using the SMART approach Be able to write your own SMART goals and develop a basic action plan that will assist you to achieve your goals. Setting goals - puts you in the driver’s seat! Setting goals allows you to take control A goal gives you something to look forward to  Goals create a challenge for you and motivate you to move forward.
What type of goals should I set for myself? Develop goals in these  six areas of your life. Family and  home Financial and career Spiritual and emotional Physical health Social and  cultural Educational
How to set... Work out what you want, beginning with the end in mind Work out what you need to do to turn a dream into reality . Discuss with your EC and create a plan to make it happen
Your   career   goals The: Type of workplace you want Size of the team you want to work with Level of customer interaction Level of manual labour involved Type of relationship with your supervisor Amount of computer work involved Type of clothes you want to wear Hours that you want to work.

Be SPECIFIC Who?   Who is involved? What?   What do I want to accomplish? Where?  Identify a location. When?  Establish a time frame. Which?  Identify requirements and constraints. Why?  Specific reason, purpose or benefit to  you .
Ask questions like: How much? How many? How often? E.g. Instead of “I want to lose weight”; say “ I want to lose 10kgs in three months.” Make it MEASURABLE
Your dream will remain a dream unless you create an action plan for how you can achieve your goals. Your action plan should consist of manageable steps that build upon each other to move you forward. Don’t forget to begin with the end in mind! Create a clear ACTION plan
Make it REALISTIC A goal can be both high and realistic. Your goal is probably realistic if you  truly   believe  that it can be accomplished and can identify the steps that will get you there.
Make it TANGIBLE and TIME-FRAMED A goal is tangible when you can experience it with one of the senses. When you can make your goal tangible, or tie in a tangible goal to an intangible one - your goal has a much better chance of being specific, measurable and attainable. A goal is more successful if it has a time-frame (which is realistic).

What happens if you don’t set goals? You: Might wander around from survival job to survival job. Are not focussed. Have no direction. Just want the pay packet. Waste time.
Setting your goal What is my goal? How can I achieve it? Is it a challenge? What do I do first?
Put your goals somewhere  you can see them daily. Review your game plan  frequently and make  relevant adjustments. Reward yourself when you reach key objectives. Discuss and review your plan with your Employment Consultant
Revision WHAT  is my goal? HOW  can I achieve it? IS  it a challenge? WHAT  do I do first?
