The narrator has always felt disapproved of by their older sister Matilda. While they had some fun times together as children exploring the beaches near their home, as they grew older they grew apart. Matilda is very opinionated and seems annoyed even when the narrator agrees with her views. Though the narrator hopes they can work through their differences, their relationship remains strained.
