Bits and Bytes
- computer memory is measured in bytes
- single byte is made up of a series of binary
digits or "bits"
RAM
- Random Access Memory
- volatile
- stores information of programs
running on your computer
ROM
- Read Only Memory
- non-volatile
- stores BIOS information
- cannot write to this memory
CACHE
- portion of hard-disk
- used for high speed
memory
Motherboard
- circuit board inside the computer
- holds everything together
Peripheral
- anything connected
from the outside to the
inside of the computer
Hard Drive
- main internal backing store
Video Card
- connects the computer to
your monitor
Power Supply Unit (PSU)
- provides power to all
parts of the computer
