Editor's Notes

  • #2: (NB for speaker: this presentation of sixteen slides is designed to last about fourteen minutes. The script will benefit from you adding local colour and relevance. To personalise the presentation, either make changes on the CD (you can’t save these) or down load this from the CD onto a computer hard drive and work on it from there. Additional slides on shared values and benefits of participation are available from slide 17. Notes to the speaker are given in bold italics throughout.) This presentation introduces Hear by Right and its contribution to ensuring better outcomes for children and young people through their active involvement in issues that affect them that is safe, sound and effective. The Government’s Every Child Matters and related Statutory Guidance and Children Act 2004 all point the way to more joined up assessment of need, commissioning and inspection of services, with children and young people’s participation seen as central to many of these developments, including across Children and Young People’s Trusts and strategic partnerships. “ The DfCS is committed to embedding participation of children and young people in the design, delivery and evaluation of services that affect them at a national, regional and local level. Hear by Right offers an excellent set of standards and a highly practical handbook which will enable organisations to embrace participation as part of their everyday work.” Tom Jeffery, Director General – Children and Families, Department for Children, Schools and Families
