This document summarizes Calin Gabriel Floare's seminar on high performance computing and its physico-chemical applications to molecular and biomolecular systems. The seminar covered parallel computing concepts, why parallel computing is used, examples of high performance computing systems like IBM's Blue Gene/P and GPUs, and INCDTIM's own data center and computing resources. It also described a serendipitous discovery around the freezing of α-cyclodextrin and 4-methylpyridine solutions on heating, and the molecular dynamics simulations and neutron scattering experiments done to understand this phenomenon.
