Pat Patterson has worked in identity management at Sun/Oracle from 2004-2010, helping to open source Sun's Access Manager product as OpenSSO in 2005. When Oracle acquired Sun in 2009, it created uncertainty around OpenSSO's future. However, a startup called ForgeRock later announced OpenAM, continuing OpenSSO's open source identity management work. Today, open source is integral to key identity trends like cloud, mobile, and consumer-driven standards, with many identity solutions now based on open standards and open source libraries and products.
