- #4: Increasingly, that means the application economy is deeply connected to the API economy, because APIs are the interface to the Internet of Things, as well as the increasingly standard way of utilizing partner and vendor services in the cloud, across mobile devices, on multi-channel devices and more. And the API economy is huge, in and of itself. One recent Forbes article claimed that Google processes up to 5 billion API transactions per day, Twitter p to 13 billion, and Amazon up to a trillion API calls per day! The same article noted that Salesforce.com generates more than half of its $2.3 billion in revenue through its APIs, not its user interfaces.
