How to add a canvas to your image

How to add a background to your image (Optional):
After you have properly cropped and colored corrected your art work you can begin to
finish by adding a canvas.

1. Create a Duplicate Layer of your artwork by selecting Layer > Duplicate Layer … at the
top of your screen.

** Creating a duplicate layer will save you from having to re-size, re-crop and re-color correct. **

You will see a new layer dialogue box:

Click OK

You will now see two layers in the Layers window:

2. With the top layer selected. Go to Image > Canvas Size…

The Canvas Size dialogue box will open

** Current Size is the current size in inches of your artwork. New Size is the new size of the
canvas on your artwork. **

3. Click the box marked Relative. This will set the canvas even all the way around your
artwork. Then change the Width and Height to 2.0 inches.

4. At the bottom of the box is Canvas extension color. This will change the color of the canvas.

a. If your artwork is color, your choices are Black or White.

b. If your artwork is black and white, your choice is Grey

** Check with your teacher for additional artistic options for your canvas. **
