- 5. 1912: The Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) is founded Radio, a new electrical technology, arose in the first decade of the twentieth century. With the new industry came a new society, IRE, modeled on the AIEE, but devoted to radio, and later increasingly to electronics. 1922 Triode vacuum tube inventor Lee de Forest with a radio 1912 Radio telegraph operators’ communications with the sinking Titanic demonstrated the power of radio 1901 Guglielmo Marconi and George Kemp with equipment used in transatlantic wireless telegraphy

AIEE + IRE = IEEE The idea that there should be one organization for all electrical engineers was an old one, and became more powerful as the profession expanded beyond its separate roots in power and radio. In 1962, the boards and memberships of the two institutes agreed to merge. Ich möchte Ihnen zunächst einen Überblick über IEEE als Organisation geben, und Ihnen dann sowohl theoretisch als auch praktisch unser Digitales Bibliotheksportal vorstellen – Diese digitale Bibliothek wächst nicht nur an Inhalten, sondern es kommen auch ständig neue Funktionalitäten hinzu, deshalb gibt es einen extra Teil zu den jüngsten Neuerungen. Danach stehe ich Ihnen selbstverständlich für Fragen zu Verfügung. Sie können mich aber auch gern unterbrechen, wenn Ihnen eine Frage auf den Nägeln brennt.
- #7: 1963 beschlossen die beiden Organisationen AIEE und IRE ihre Fusion und bilden seither IEEE. IEEE ist inzwischen keine richtige Abkürzung mehr, sondern einfach der Name der Organisation. Dieser kurze historische Exkurs sollte Ihnen in erster Linie zeigen, dass IEEE keineswegs eine rein amerikanische Angelegenheit ist, sondern dass es von Beginn an international ausgerichtet war. - #14: So that list showed how we were doing in terms of our journal cited in other journals and in books – this graph illustrates how this compares to other scientific publishers when it comes to Patents. So the spirit of Edison and Bell ist very much alive throughout the IEEE.
- #17: Auf der Anwendungsseite haben wir auch eine Adresse für mobile Nutzer – allerdings kann man diese Anwendung nur zum Recherchieren nutzen – um die gefundenen und ausgewählten Dokumente, also deren pdf Version, zu lesen, muss man sich entweder im Reichweite eines autorisierten WiFi-Netzes befinden, oder sich die Ergenbisse per e-Mail auf den eigenen PC schicken. Das hat urheberrechtliche/lizenzrechtliche Gründe.
