Cont…
• Indigestion, anorexia, corpulence, anemia, heaviness, exhaustion, eruption
of pimples and wheals (bumps or itchy sores), pruritis, sluggishness,
indolence, weakness, foul smell of the body, lassitude, precipitation
(utklesha) of kapha and pitta, sleeplessness or excessive drowsiness,
impotency, impediment to intelligence, inauspicious dreams, and loss of
strength and complexion in spite of taking nourishing diet and right
therapy are the signs and symptoms of patients having excess of
morbid dosha.
• An experienced, skilled physician would advise and administer purification
therapy taking into consideration the dosha status and strength of the
patient

The wise physician should not treat
the following types of patients:
Who is fierceful or aggressive,
adventurous, fearful, ungrateful and
fickle minded;
Who hates good persons, kings and
physicians and who is intensely
disliked by them;
Who is afflicted with grief;
Who does not believe in God (nastika)

Who is in the end stage of disease and is predicted to die soon;
Who is not in position to collect the essential items (karana) for the
treatment;
Who is enemy or hostile to the physician;
Who is an impostor and considers himself to be a physician;
Who is unfaithful to the physician;
Who is always suspicious (doubtful); and
Who is not obedient to the physician.
The physician, who administers Panchakarma or any medicine to the above
mentioned types of patients, faces many difficulties and does not get success.

Shodhana according to Rtu
Purification therapies such as emesis etc. are applied in seasons having similar
characters(as of physiological vitiation of dosha) and are stopped in other seasons. The
seasons having similar characters are the most convenient ones and are not harmful to
body and drugs because of moderate cold, heat and rains, while others, due to
excessive cold, heat and rains are inconvenient ones and harmful to body and the drugs.
तत्रसाधारणलक्षणेष्वृतुषुवमनादीनाांप्रवृत्तित्तविधीयते, त्तनवृत्तिररतरेषु|

Seasons for purification
Excess heat, rain and cold are the signature features of summer (greeshma), rainy
(varsha) and winter (hemanta) seasons respectively. The three seasons viz., the
period between summer and rains (pravrita), autumn (sharada) and spring
(vasanta), which come in between the above mentioned are known as general
seasons (sadharana ritu).

and Nabha (Shravana, Mid July to Mid
August) together are known as Pravrita
ritu.
The months Urja (Kartika, Mid
October to Mid November)
and Saha (Margashersha –Mid
November to Mid December) are
known as Sharada ritu.
The months Tapasya (Phaalguna -
Mid February to Mid March)
and Madhu (Chaitram- mid March
to mid April) are known
as Vasanta ritu.

These seasons are specially mentioned here for the sake of
administration of shodhana therapy (purificatory procedures).
The physician shall select an appropriate purificatory procedure
to preserve the health after determining the exact season.
However, in case of disease, it has to be done with respect to
the nature of the clinical condition in any of the seasons
