Initial Reaction
• The set brief for this project is very useful because it gives me the freedom to create
products using a certain media or medias which is why I have decided to create an
animated gothic themed pixel game because I know I have the ability/knowledgeable
when using the tools within adobe and the creative techniques that I have learn
throughout the level 2 course last year and the level 3 course this year.
• Since I have already made pixel game within my Level 3 course, it has solidified my skills
around designing pixel art and animating within Photoshop & Premier Pro, which
makes me more confident to make the game within this set brief because I've
experienced game animation production previously within this year already.
• Because this is my final project and not a regular project within my Level 3 corse, I will
be approaching production and research for what my game is going to be about in a
much more careful and thoughtful way because this is the major project within my
corse and there is more of a duration to complete this task thus meaning i should put in
optimum effort since there is more time to prepare, evaluate and to produce my final
product.

Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images
styles/fonts/tone/mood
• Red, black, blue and gold are the colours that are frequently occur within my mood board that draws simarlarities to
gothicism because red depending on a certain situation can reflect positive and negative emotions. Black is symbolic of death,
mystery, evil and power. And when the two main gothic décor (Black & Red) are combined, it creates an amplification of power
and agression, but yet red is still included, which creates, putting aside the punk movement, a much greater sense of finding
love and beauty in darkness, thus transpiring to the reason why a lot of modern and old goths wear black and red. My mood
board also features the colour blue which has a negative connotation from the fact that it's remind some people of a dark blue
sky at night which can be symbolic, for some people, of depression as for some can influence their emotion in a negative
way. Although blue can have a negative interpretation, similarly to red, blue has also been known to be associated with and to
invoke positive feelings such as comfort, hope, peace, calmness, happiness and relaxation which further fits into the
understanding and relevancy about the certain colours used within gothic arts. Gold has the polar opposite symbolisms that the
colour black has, like happiness and energy, which can balance out within certain art, the emotion/statment that, that produced
piece of work is trying to visually express.
• Arches and spires are also commonly used within my mood board because, especially in the past, they
were used for gothic influences on religious architecture like houses, churches and cathedrals which were
highly popular in architecture in the mid 12th century and the victorian era.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• My mood board will influence my final product because I'll be inspired by the architectural, overall aesthetical
and coloration ideas that are included within the collection of images. An important feature within my mood
board is the inclusion of symbols and text fonts because it's a good reminder when looking at the mood board
since the gothic images can be easily distracting from the small elements that build up the overall look of a well
exicuted gothic product. Researching developing a concrete idea of the certain colours that make up a gothic
artwork has inspired me to use those colours and more importantly allowed me to understand through my
research to know why those colours are used on the meanings behind them for the gothic style because once I
am in the production stage I have a more firm clicking as to where i should apply certain colours in certain
situations to balance the mood and the tone of their influences one creating the overall gothic look.
• Having wellshot images of the interior an exterior of Gothic architecture, it can allow me to observe even the
basics that make up elements of stained glass windows, arches, spires, roofs, walls and floors which enhances
my knowledge of Gothic architecture and gives me a better natural sense of what makes up Gothic
architecture, which is fantastic hence from my initial plans and onwards I will have an increased confidence on
the aethetic that I will be using within my action game.
