FWF is affiliated with NWF but has autonomy  FWF offers several programs statewide promoting community involvement  FWF  is composed of three regional offices located in Naples, St. Augustine, and Tallahassee. Each office is  unique better to serve its surrounding community.
The Northeast Branch of FWF It is headed by Sara Owen and opened six years ago The main emphasis is on promoting habitat conservation, sustainable growth, and public education. In addition,  FWF responds to concerns voiced by its members and community.  Key :  NE branch of FWF does not  simply function as an advocacy group but rather plays an active role in local politics. FWF’s is involved in the process of land-use planning in St. Johns County and the surrounding counties. FWF works with other state agencies and local interest groups Sara Owen is the official go to person in St. Johns when it comes to environmental issues, ranging from the buffer zone requirement  for wetlands to reviewing an environmental impact statement proposed by developer. FWF is also promotes its agenda through litigation when necessary.
The Beauty of Local Politics in St. Johns County FWF’s is involved in the process of shaping the future of Northeast Florida by means of…  -  Influencing what issues make the “major issues” list on the EAR.  -   Attending meetings that pertain to changes in the Comprehensive Plan. -   Forming alliances with less likely organization (Florida Dept of Agriculture) -  Familiarizing  new commissioners with the language and essence of environmental policy
My Day to Day Responsibilities  Go to headquarters three days a week from 9am to 2pm Research a variety of issues and to different degrees Write letters to different interest groups requesting our help or support Attend several meeting with Sara (the fun part) Prepare initial assessment of major documents coming our way Attend community forums discussing issues pertinent to FWF
Saving One Sea Turtle at a Time.. The Northeast FWF Branch focuses on treating every issue importance. It accomplishes to create the leadership that this microcosm of the state lacks. Over the years FWF has provided the means with which the community can voice its environmental concerns to elected officials. Most importantly, FWF is providing future generations an excellent example of leadership.
