- 14. 8 HISTORY: SO WHERE DID DRUPAL COME FROM? Dries Buytaert 2000, a student of the University of Antwerp, Belgium at that time. Built a web blog to communicate with his friends. After graduation he release the code as open source. Fast-forward to today, Drupal is maintained by one of the largest open source community in the world.
